NECF launches world-class Financial Literacy 101 course for young adults

Boston, MA, August 1, 2008

New England College of Finance launches a world-class Financial Literacy 101 course for young adults. Personal financial concepts are learned by trial and error by most people. This life skill is not yet taught in most schools. According to Jump$tart* Coalition's biennial survey in 2008, high school students continue to struggle with financial literacy basics. Only 48% correctly answered the questions regarding knowledge they should have to handle their money well.

New England College of Finance has a vision for financial literacy for kids. "Our mission to provide financial education spans nearly 100 years. With our centennial approaching, we were inspired to give back to the community with an innovative, multimedia-rich, three (3) credit affordable Financial Literacy 101 course for young adults," says President Howard E. Horton of New England College of Finance. "There is no reason to not have every teen in America build their financial independence and make better decisions where money is concerned. We intend to be a big part of that solution."

There are five content modules that make up the Financial Literacy 101 course. Each module is packed with relevant, engaging content and all five are designed to easily be completed in five weeks. Students may, however, work on the modules at their own pace as long as all course requirements are completed within the term. Each course module will provide critical knowledge that students will be able to immediately apply to their daily practices. Additional benefits of Financial Literacy 101 include:
  • Using innovative, multimedia-rich online technologies including powerful presentations by a nationally-acclaimed presenter and best-selling author, Chad Foster
  • Receiving data-driven subject content aligned with national standards established by the Jump$tart Coalition on Personal Finance
  • Completing engaging course assignments that tie into real-world financial success
  • By supporting financial literacy in our communities, we help educate young adults to make better decisions about their personal finances, from how to make money to managing it, multiplying it, protecting it and paying for it.
New England College of Finance (NECF) celebrates 100 years as a recognized leader in industry-focused education. NECF provides high quality education and training for students interested in careers in business through degrees and career development certificate programs.
